Irregular Miniatures Celts

Filed under: Ancients, Celts, Irregular Miniatures, Moonraker Miniatures — gisby @ 17:39

These are Irregular Miniatures Celts, the three Command figures plus some of the variants of IP29 and IP30. They provide a nice 15-figure General and bodyguard unit.

These are the Command figures (IP40 a, b, c), unmodified except for replacing the standard shaft with wire.

The spearmen come with open hands for the wire spears supplied.

I have heard Irregular described as ‘Old School’ wargaming figures, and I suppose they are. But Irregular was providing codes with head, equipment, and pose variations long before it became fashionable.

It’s actually nice to see figures that aren’t waving their arms about pointlessly: They fit on their bases and rank up nicely.

  1. Really nice painting, especially the shields. Irregular might be what some people call “old school”, but I for one don’t think this is a particularly bad thing. I have nothing but praise for the way Ian runs his business. No flashy boxes and exorbitant prices just value and good service, just how I like my wargaming.

    Cheers Roger.

    • Thanks for the kind words.

Apropos of nothing: Back in 1976 I had waterslide Celtic shield decals printed commercially, that I used for my original British, Gallic, and Galatian armies. I still have hundreds of sets somewhere in storage. In more recent years I have painted hundreds of RENEGADE, Old Glory, Wargames Factory, and Irregular Celts, and every time I forget about the decalm and just paint the shields.

Irregular is my ‘go to’ for artillery, great stuff. (We sound like Ian wrote our replies, sorry Ian!)

      • We do sound like the Irreg fan club ;-), though I know what you mean about his artillery pieces they are really excellent.

        Cheers Roger

  2. […] I’m also a big fan of Irregular Miniatures, but have only a chariot from their range. (Since I  made this post I have bought more. See: Irregular Miniatures Celts) […]
