SPACE 1889: City-State Cutters

This unit is made up of ex-Grenadier High Elven axemen and swordsmen, from Forlorn Hope Games. I wanted some more variety in units, as Mars is a big place: Armour fashions must vary from city to city.

Martian troops seem quite fond of big chopping weapons, so these figures fit right in. There are equal numbers of axes and swords in the ranks. They look quite determined, even eager to get into the fray.

I had thought of doing separate units of the two types, but decided against it.

The officer is a spearman with his spear replaced with a wire sword. The standard bearer is an axeman with a wire staff, and a standard printed on my computer.

This unit matches two other  infantry units and a gashant cavalry unit in style, so they can be used as an Allied or Enemy force on their own.

  1. You know I’m not into Mars stuff but I have to admire this unit. Good work.

  2. I must give you the credit for paving the way, I’ve been doing similar with 15mm Dark Elves.

    • It was only natural, since the Grenadier Elves and the SPACE 1889 Martians were both styled after GW Elves.

Have fun with your Dark Elves! (I have some too)

  3. Great to have you back Gisby, have missed your posts, I had been hoping to contact you over “Forgotten heroes” back in June, but hadn’t got your contact details, sorry.

These look great, especially love the printed flag, wonderful design on there, and fits in so well with the colour scheme you’ve picked, that is a very neat and formidable looking force.

    Cheers Roger.

    • Thank you Roger, very much appreciated. Normally I am stuck with Heraldic colours and combinations, so on Mars I have really tried to use non-heraldic shades and combinations.

I was working on Wonderella, Wonderita, and Patrianna figures http://nonadventures.com/2011/05/13/the-most-dangerous-name/ but I got distracted, so I would have let you down on the ‘Forgotten Heroes’.

      sigh
